The crypto market has closed its third straight quarter in the red.

Total market capitalization dropped 12.6% in the second quarter of 2026, erasing $304.8 billion in value. That leaves the industry at $2.1 trillion, its lowest mark since September 2024. 

The figure sits roughly 52% below the October 2025 peak, according to CoinGecko’s 2026 Q2 Crypto Industry Report. June delivered the hardest blow. A hawkish Federal Reserve, shifting US-Iran tensions, and a symbolic Bitcoin sale from Strategy pushed prices lower.

Market Cap and Trading Volume Slide Through Q2

April started the quarter on solid ground, ranking among the year’s stronger months before sentiment turned. 

Bitcoin fell 14.2% over the quarter, while Ethereum dropped a sharper 25.4%. Both majors underperformed even as US equities staged a comeback, marking a clear split from traditional risk assets. 

Average daily trading volume slid to $93.1 billion, down 20.9% from the prior quarter, CoinGecko reported.
