Today we’re taking a first look at the Volcminer D3 (20GH/s Scrypt miner) — a unit that’s supposed to compete with machines like the Antminer L9 and other high-performance Scrypt ASICs. But there’s a problem… This demo unit was shipped all the way from Dubai, and when I opened it up, I found massive internal shifting. The bus bars snapped off the hashboards during shipping, ribbon clips broke, and there was enough internal play that powering this thing on could have caused serious damage (or worse). In this video: • We weigh the miner (it’s HEAVY) • Full teardown and inspection • Why the bus bars failed • Shipping design flaws • Cooling and internal build impressions • Why I decided NOT to attempt the repair Unfortunately, I won’t be able to test the 20GH/s at ~3560W claims in this video due to the damage — but once I get a working unit back, we’ll do full efficiency comparisons vs the Antminer L9 and other Scrypt miners.
