What in 2023 raised questions about its technical viability now has compelling answers in production.
The starting point of the original design was solving persistent problems in self-custodial payments: the need to open Lightning channels, manage inbound liquidity, and keep nodes online at all times. Ark addressed this through virtual transaction outputs, or VTXOs: pre-signed, off-chain Bitcoin outputs backed by funds committed in a single on-chain transaction.
