Cottrell-Named Polymarket Wallet Took In $8.8M

The Financial Times that a Polymarket account registered under the name “GCottrell93” received about $8.8 million from two unidentified wallets in October 2024. The account’s funding origin became as significant as its election bet as the money was immediately used to back Donald Trump’s presidential victory.

Blockchain records reviewed by the newspaper showed $7 million arriving from OKX in five tranches and another $1.83 million from a wallet funded through ChangeNOW. Trump’s victory generated about $4.46 million in profit, after which roughly $13 million was transferred to an OKX deposit wallet, while another $282,000 moved to a ChangeNOW-linked address.

The report said it remains unclear who supplied the capital and who ultimately received the winnings. Cottrell declined to answer questions about beneficial ownership or third-party economic interests, while his lawyers said that refusal did not mean he accepted the newspaper’s assertions. Wallet ownership and the destination of the profits therefore remain unresolved despite the publicly traceable transactions.
