Alleged Thief Drains $20,000 From Elderly Resident’s Bank Account at Illinois Senior Complex
An elderly resident at a senior apartment complex in Illinois has lost more than $20,000 through unauthorized bank account transactions.
Police identified the suspect as 41-year-old Tiffany D. Hobson, the manager at Woodland Towers Apartments, after the victim discovered multiple Cash App transfers and Airbnb purchases on her account, reports KTVI.
Authorities say the transactions totaled $20,000.
The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Hobson of East St. Louis on August 26th with theft of property over $5,000 by deception from an elderly person, wire fraud and unlawful use of a debit card.
Hobson surrendered to Collinsville police and was released pending court proceedings.
Anyone who has lived at Woodland Towers Apartments or discovered suspicious or unauthorized Cash App transactions is urged to contact the Collinsville Police Department at 618-344-2131, extension 5209.
Police are also urging relatives to check recent bank and payment records for unfamiliar transactions or other unusual activity. Any suspicious charges should be reported to the financial institution and local authorities.
