France Tax Hack Exposes Data of 678,000 Taxpayers, Including Millionaires
A cyberattack on France’s tax authority exposed personal data linked to about 678,000 taxpayers, including information on thousands of high-income individuals.
France’s Finance Ministry confirmed the breach after hackers accessed systems at the General Directorate of Public Finances. FrenchBreaches estimates that 678,437 people were affected, including nearly 27,000 who reported income above €100,000 and 386 earning more than €1 million.
Stolen Data Raises Security Concerns
The leaked records reportedly include names, birthdates, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses. A database matching the information has also reportedly appeared for sale online, although authorities have not confirmed whether it came from the attack.
