Global Top-20 Economy Yanks $13,588,825,600 in Gold out of US and Canada To Ensure It’s ‘Readily Available’

The Dutch central bank is shifting dozens of tonnes of its gold reserves to London from the US and Canada to improve tradability and crisis readiness.
De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) says the operation moved about 86 tonnes between March and August 2026 through a combination of sales and physical transfers.
The bank sold roughly 59 tonnes in New York and bought equivalent amounts in London while moving more than 27 tonnes via its Zeist vaults without remelting bars.
After the relocation, London now holds 32.1 percent of the reserves while New York and Ottawa each hold 18.5 percent.
The total Dutch gold stock remains 612.4 tonnes valued at $83.77 billion at the end of 2025.
De Nederlandsche Bank addressed the rationale for the move.
“In view of increasing geopolitical unrest, DNB is strengthening its crisis preparedness. Improving the liquidity and tradability of the Dutch gold reserves is part of these preparations.”
The DNB Governor Olaf Sleijpen further says,
“With this relocation, we have improved the tradability of our gold reserves. We expect that we will never need to use them, but we do need to strengthen our resilience and preparedness.”
