Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix shares jumped sharply on Wednesday after a South Korean media report said Singapore’s state investment fund Temasek is planning to invest in both companies.

Asia Business Daily reported that Temasek contacted the Korean government to discuss the timing of the investment. The fund has decided to invest directly using its own internal team rather than through outside asset managers.

Shares Jump Over 7%

Samsung and SK Hynix each rose more than 7% in Korean trade. The broader KOSPI index climbed over 4% on the day.
