The National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) formally withdrew its opposition to the Clarity Act and adopted a neutral stance, in a letter addressed to Senate leaders. The organization argued that the complexity of the legislation and the number of unresolved details made it advisable to step back and allow the legislative process to run its course.

“We believe the most appropriate stance is to step back and allow the legislative process to move forward to establish a clear, effective, and much-needed regulatory framework,” wrote NSA President Sheriff Troy Wellman and Executive Director Justin Smith in the letter addressed to Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
