Crypto sector calls for early AI model access for Bitcoin

The Bitcoin Policy Institute (BPI) published an open letter in which a group of companies and organizations from the crypto sector urges leading artificial intelligence laboratories to offer early access to their frontier models to Bitcoin and open-source developers. The document warns that these advocates face a specific problem: the guardrails of available public systems frequently block them, leaving them dependent on open-weight models with lower capabilities.

The letter was co-signed by organizations and companies such as the African Bitcoin Institute, Anchorage Digital, BitGo, Bitwise, Blockstream, Bull Bitcoin, MARA, Kraken, Ledger, and Trezor, among others. The signatories requested that laboratories “establish or expand trusted access programs for qualified defenders of open-source financial infrastructure.”
