Hackers Release Personal Data of 8.7 Million Airport Customers After Ransom Refusal

Hackers have published the personal data of about 8.7 million customers from three major airports after the operator refused to pay a ransom.

The dump covers people who used Manchester, London Stansted and East Midlands airports, reports the BBC.

Americans and other foreigners who flew through those airports can be in the set if they joined the airport Wi-Fi or booked parking, a lounge or Fast Track.

The malicious group wrote,

“Today we are releasing the Manchester Group database. Half a terabyte, and every byte of it is pure PII [personally identifiable information].”

Have I Been Pwned says the files include email addresses, phone numbers, postal addresses, vehicle plates and travel and browsing history.

People in the dump should watch for phishing and scams. MAG says no bank or payment details were in the system that was hit.

Manchester Airports Group, which runs the airports, says flying through on an airline ticket alone is not enough to put someone in the set.

The group, which is the U.K.’s largest airport operator, refused the ransom and says it has contacted affected customers and people with upcoming bookings.
