One Balance, Several Strategies: Inside 1inch Aqua

You know the feeling. A stablecoin on Base, an LP on BNB Chain, a tail asset on Arbitrum, and the trade you want is on Ethereum right now. You either wait, pay to bridge, or sit it out. Meanwhile, half your capital is just parked.
Then 1inch rolled out Aqua, and the pitch was blunt: keep one balance you control, express multiple strategies at once, and route across chains like it is one venue. No lock-in. No custodial hop.
The timing is not random. A lot of liquidity in modern DEX designs sits there, technically present, practically idle. The data is not subtle, and 1inch is trying to wire around it.
The big picture: a shared balance for a fragmented market
DeFi keeps spreading out. New chains spin up, gas prices wobble, and the same pair can have five slightly different markets. Traders feel latency and slippage. Liquidity providers feel something worse: weeks where funds do almost nothing.
In July, a DEX capital efficiency study sampled roughly 1.84 billion dollars of concentrated liquidity in an average week and found that, on average, only a small slice was actually getting used. The rest sat in-range and unswept or out-of-range, with an estimated hundreds of millions idle and fees effectively left on the table. That is the context Aqua jumps into.
