Pfizer Preparing To Send $44,000,000 to Settle Allegations That Prescription Drug Contained Carcinogen

The drug and vaccine company Pfizer has signed off on a proposed $44 million class action settlement involving its Chantix medication.

The resolution addresses claims that Chantix, a prescription aid for quitting smoking, reached consumers without proper disclosure of contamination by a nitrosamine compound widely viewed as a probable human carcinogen.

The settlement covers individuals and third-party payers who made retail purchases of the drug across the United States and its territories from September 29th, 2015, through September 17th, 2021.

Eligible claimants must present documentation, such as pharmacy receipts or credit card statements, to request payments from the fund.

“After a determination of the total fund to be allocated to Consumers, each Consumer class member who submits an eligible claim will receive a pro-rata share of the funds based on dollars paid as documented in claim forms and supporting documents submitted, and each consumer’s claim will not exceed the total amount paid for Chantix.”
