Tether Unveils Offline AI Translation Models for African, European Languages

Tether AI Research has launched a set of open-source translation models that work without an internet connection. The models are built for smartphones and laptops and cover languages spoken across Africa and Europe.
The tools run locally on a device rather than relying on cloud services. That means users can translate text even when an internet connection is unavailable.
Tetherโs TranslatePsy-AfriSLM covers 19 African languages. AfriNano supports eight, while EuroNano supports nine European languages.
Tether Targets Language Barriers
AfriSLM uses about 800 million parameters, yet testing showed it could outperform several larger translation models. Tether also developed a filtering method that removes up to 96% of low-quality training data.
