AMD CPU Market Hits 30% As Intel Falters: Will Stock Price Rise?

According to Mercury Research, AMD’s market share for x86 CPUs has crossed the 30% mark, with Intel’s share dropping to 69.7%. AMD’s x86 CPU market share was at 21.1% two years ago. The jump aligns with the company’s growing dominance over the last few years. Intel’s market share is currently at its lowest since 1995, more than 30 years ago. Will AMD Stock Price Surge After Eating Intel’s x86 Market Share?
While AMD’s x86 market share has increased over the last few years, Mercury Research has not included the coming of ARM-based chips that Apple, Qualcomm, and MediaTek are dominate. The report states, “Our estimate of Arm-inclusive PC client CPU share for the second quarter of 2026 is 15.3 percent, a 0.9 point increase and a new record high.“
AMD’s stock price has also registered substantial gains over the last few years. However, the stock price rally has less to do with x86 chips and more to do with AI-based computing and data centers. Mercury Research notes that demand for desktop CPUs have significantly fallen. The report stated, “We believe that higher PC prices and limited GPU supplies are having a significant impact on end demand for desktop PCs, and thus desktop CPUs.“
