BIP-110 Chain Trails Bitcoin by 300 Blocks After Split

The BIP-110 fork has fallen more than 300 blocks behind Bitcoin after splitting from the main network at block 961,632. The breakaway chain produced only two blocks before stalling, leaving a severe hashpower shortage as the defining problem for the minority chain while Bitcoin continued advancing normally.

BIP-110 nodes began rejecting blocks that did not meet the proposalโ€™s mandatory signaling requirement, creating a separate chain supported by only a small share of miners. Because the fork inherited Bitcoinโ€™s existing mining difficulty, weak miner participation now makes each new block exceptionally slow to produce, widening the gap with the main network.

The chain cannot meaningfully reduce its mining difficulty until it completes a 2,016-block adjustment period, a milestone that could take years at the current pace. That makes recovery dependent on either substantially more mining support or prolonged block production under present conditions. The widening block deficit is therefore becoming a practical test of whether BIP-110 can sustain an independent chain rather than simply trigger a temporary split.
