Elon Musk's latest AI prediction compares the technology's rise to a supersonic tsunami. He posted the claim to X on Monday, alongside a chart showing growth breaking out since spring 2026.

The chart plots monthly progress from July 2023 through July 2026. It labels November 2024 "it's so over," then shows the curve snapping upward once 2026 begins.

That month marked a trough in AI hype. Media outlets reported that OpenAI's next model, code-named Orion, showed only modest gains over GPT-4, reviving fears that AI scaling had hit a wall. OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman pushed back, posting that there was no wall.

AI Growth Breaks Out After a Flat Start

The chart's shape lines up with recent benchmark results. Grok 4.5, the model built by Musk's xAI, recently topped an independent agent benchmark from Artificial Analysis. It beat rival systems on both cost and speed.

Musk has also said SpaceX engineering data will feed Grok's next training run. The data excludes material restricted under U.S. arms-export rules. The move is meant to sharpen Grok's reasoning on real-world physical problems, an area where text-only data tends to fall short.
