The hardfork Pasteur will activate on the BNB Smart Chain mainnet on August 25, 2026 at 02:30 AM UTC, as confirmed by the BNB Chain team. The upgrade bundles three proposals under BEP-673 and aims to improve security across the cross-chain bridge, the validator key rotation system, and block processing capacity.

BEP-682 fixes a vulnerability in the bridge’s signature verification precompile: prior to Pasteur, a manipulated validator set could list the same validator multiple times and reach the approval threshold with far fewer real signers than required.

Pasteur rejects duplicates directly. BEP-695, in turn, ensures that a rotated key loses its administrative privileges, that pending penalties follow the validator after the key change, and that blocked addresses cannot vote in governance through signatures.

BEP-675 introduces the highest-impact performance improvement. Pasteur allows builders to submit pre-executed blocks, reducing the time a validator consumes from 125 ms to 15 ms. On QANet, the internal test network that replicates the mainnet validator topology, throughput increased from 1,237 to 2,324 TPS with the same gas limit and without modifying finality times. These are controlled-environment figures, not mainnet measurements.
