Zcash Engineers Roll Out High-Impact Upgrade Cutting Private Transaction Time Dramatically

TL;DR

  • Zakura Common can reduce Zcash private transaction creation from over three seconds to under 200 milliseconds, with mobile performance improving over 14 times.
  • The open-source stack accelerates hashing, wallet syncing and node verification, requires no network upgrade, and is already used by Zakura 1.3.0 and Vizor Wallet.
  • Zakura ultimately targets more than 50,000 private transactions per second, while Project Tachyon adopted the stack and ZEC rose about 5% after release.

Zcash engineers have released Zakura Common, an open-source cryptography toolkit designed to cut the time required to create private transactions from more than three seconds to under 200 milliseconds in some cases. The software comes from the team behind Zakura, the Zcash node launched in July as part of a broader scaling effort. The breakthrough targets one of privacyโ€™s least visible bottlenecks: the heavy cryptographic work a wallet must complete before a shielded payment can even be sent on ordinary consumer hardware. Private transactions conceal sender, receiver and amount while still proving network rules are satisfied.
