The FBI seized more than $560,000 in cryptocurrencies linked to Hamas as part of a counterterrorism operation that spanned 18 months.

According to court documents from the Department of Justice declassified on September 1, 2026, federal agents executed three seizure orders on March 25, June 25, and October 10, 2025, targeting funds used by the Al Qassam Brigades to finance their activities and recruit sympathizers through the internet.

The FBI operation included the dismantling of Hamas’s digital infrastructure, with the seizure of servers and web domains, among them the main site AlQassam.ps.

That measure allowed authorities to intercept incoming transfers and obtain information on thousands of potential donors. The FBI worked alongside Chainalysis to track financial flows using on-chain analysis tools, identifying rotating wallets, money mules, and cross-chain transfers.

In addition to the FBI, various authorities coordinated with private exchanges to execute the court orders and freeze the corresponding addresses. The seized funds could be integrated into the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve or the Digital Asset Stockpile of the United States once the formal forfeiture process is concluded.
