FlightAware abruptly drops Kalshi lawsuit after rapid one‑day filing

FlightAware withdrew its lawsuit against Kalshi just one day after filing it in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District. The flight tracking platform had accused Kalshi of misusing its data and registered trademark to “operate betting markets on flight cancellations“, and had requested a temporary restraining order to halt those activities.

The voluntary withdrawal sparked speculation about a private agreement between the parties. Corporate attorney Ariel Givner, founder of Givner Law, commented on X that when a plaintiff drops a case so quickly after requesting a restraining order, it generally means the parties reached an understanding outside of court.

Kalshi also modified the language in its flight cancellation markets. It previously stated that results were “verified by FlightAware“; it now references a “Primary Source Agency” with a link to FlightAware’s website, clarifying that the platform does not endorse or have any affiliation with Kalshi.

Kalshi is currently facing multiple legal battles with state regulators over its sports event contracts. New York sued it for operating an illegal gambling business, and courts in Washington and Michigan issued temporary restraining orders.
