A group of six researchers, including Justin Drake of the Ethereum Foundation and Jérôme de Tychey, co-founder of the Ethereum Community Conference, published on August 4 the proposal EIP-8363, named Tapered Issuance Burn.
The initiative proposes burning a growing fraction of validator rewards as the percentage of ETH staked rises, bringing the net issuance of the consensus layer to zero when the staking ratio reaches 50%. Today, approximately 41.9 million ETH — 34.7% of the total supply — are staked, with consensus yields close to 2.6%.
