BitGo buys NYDIG trading unit as institutions consolidate crypto services

On August 27, 2026, BitGo announced that it has acquired NYDIG’s institutional trading unit, which has enabled one of the largest regulated custodians within the crypto sector to gain a pre-existing derivatives and finance operation amid the ongoing trend of banks and funds consolidating their digital asset activities with fewer infrastructure partners. Following this acquisition, BitGo will bring on board around 30 employees of NYDIG and their institutional trading network.

That demand is showing up in spending. Fireblocks’ April 14, 2026 Financial Grid report, based on a January survey of 638 financial-industry decision-makers worldwide, found that 88% had committed or planned to commit budget to digital-asset infrastructure in 2026. Among institutions that had already sized their investment, 53% were spending at least US$1 million.
