Tether Completes Biggest-Ever Audit in Major Stablecoin Milestone
Tether announced Thursday that KPMG U.S. has completed its first full independent financial statement audit, issuing an unqualified opinion on the company’s 2025 financial statements. Tether described the review as its largest-ever inaugural audit.
The examination goes beyond previous reserve attestations by reviewing Tether’s broader balance sheet, liabilities, financial controls and assets supporting USDT. The company said KPMG also physically inspected and counted every gold bar held in its reserves. Tether’s latest reported figures show more than $141 billion in direct and indirect U.S. Treasury exposure and $8.23 billion in excess reserves as of March 2026.
The completed audit marks a significant transparency development for the stablecoin sector and could provide additional assurance as dollar-backed digital assets expand into payments and global markets. Tether is expected to continue publishing independent financial reporting as regulatory scrutiny increases. The move also comes as stablecoins gain wider attention from financial institutions, regulators and businesses seeking faster digital settlement options.
