Imposter Uses Counterfeit Documents To Secure $250,000 Loan Against Residential Property Owned by Connecticut Couple: Report

A Connecticut couple discovered an unexpected lien on their Wallingford home after someone secured a nearly quarter-million-dollar home equity loan in their names with fraudulent identification.

The scheme came to light last fall when the homeowners learned about the unauthorized debt placed against their property, reports Patch.com.

Police traced the fraud to Katija Hussain, a 27-year-old from Oxon Hill, Maryland, who allegedly posed as the victims with counterfeit Connecticut driver’s licenses.

Hussain was identified as the suspect following a lengthy investigation, the police reportedly said in a press release.
“A lengthy investigation resulted in the identification of Katija Hussain, who, by using fraudulent CT driver’s licenses, posed as the victim(s) in order to apply for and obtain a home equity loan on a Wallingford property owned by the victim(s),”

Authorities extradited Hussain from a Washington, D.C. jail to face charges in Connecticut.

She now faces two counts of first-degree identity theft, two counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree identity theft, and one count of criminal attempt to commit first-degree larceny.
