Illegal Immigrant Charged With Laundering Proceeds From $1.3 Billion Healthcare Fraud

Federal prosecutors have charged a 33-year-old illegal alien from the country of Georgia with conspiracy to launder money from a health fraud scheme that billed more than $1.3 billion.

The Justice Department says Erekle Gugava opened bank accounts as the owner of a Pennsylvania medical equipment firm called ND Medical Solutions LLC from February to July of 2025.

Prosecutors say the company sent at least $1.3 billion in false claims for medical equipment using stolen identities. Insurers paid about $6.5 million.

According to the DOJ, Gugava deposited the checks and moved the money overseas to a criminal group based in Russia.

A grand jury in Massachusetts returned the indictment.

The case is part of Operation Gold Rush, which the department calls the largest health care fraud case it has ever brought.

Says Assistant Attorney General Colin M. McDonald,

“Fraud networks cannot function without people willing to launder and transmit their proceeds — and deterring those facilitators is essential to safeguarding taxpayer resources.”
