Zcash Zakura Cuts Private Transaction Proof Time Below 200ms

Zakura has released Zakura Common, an open-source cryptography and protocol library suite for the Zcash ecosystem, with reported optimisations that can reduce private-transaction creation from more than three seconds to under 200 milliseconds in some cases. CoinDesk reported the sub-200ms result on August 31, two days after Zakura’s official release, potentially removing a multi-second delay from this part of the transaction process for integrations using the library.

The changes are client-side software optimisations, not an alteration to Zcash’s network rules. Zakura said the code is publicly available now and can be adopted without a network upgrade.

Zakura Common’s benchmarked proof-generation gains

The headline result concerns the time required to create a Zcash private transaction in certain cases. Proof generation is a central computational task for privacy-preserving transactions, making performance particularly relevant for wallet software and mobile use.

In its August 29 release announcement, Zakura said its benchmark tests showed mobile proof generation running more than 14 times faster and desktop proof generation more than five times faster. The company also reported Sinsemilla hashing more than 21 times faster, alongside zk-SNARK verification improvements of four to eight times.
