Kansas Resident Admits To Draining Over $30,000 From Multiple Bank Accounts in Maine

A Kansas resident has admitted to using counterfeit passport cards to impersonate account holders and take more than $30,000 from banks in northern Maine.

Rachael Kennedy, 37, targeted institutions in Penobscot and Aroostook counties,ย reportsย Fox Bangor.

In October of 2025 she posed as customers and withdrew $30,400 from home equity lines of credit.

Police chased her after an attempted theft at a Houlton bank and eventually tracked her to Canada, where Royal Canadian Mounted Police took her and a companion into custody.

She pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Bangor to conspiracy to commit bank fraud and to counts of bank fraud, passport fraud and aggravated identity theft.

Bank fraud carries up to 30 years, aggravated identity theft adds a mandatory two years and passport fraud carries up to 10 years. Sentencing comes after a presentence report.
