Brazil Moves to Regulate $319B Crypto Market With October Licensing Deadline
Brazil’s Central Bank is moving to place the country’s $318.8 billion crypto market under formal supervision, with virtual asset service providers required to submit authorization applications by October 30, 2026, according to a new CertiK report.
The rules affect companies that trade, custody, or transfer crypto assets for customers. Applications must include an independent assurance report covering anti-money-laundering and sanctions controls, while minimum capital requirements range from roughly $2 million to $6.7 million depending on the license category.
The framework stems from Brazil’s Law 14,478/2022 and Central Bank resolutions published in November 2025. CertiK estimates around 120 providers currently operate in the market, while stablecoins account for a major share of activity. The report also notes $1.32 billion in crypto losses from hacks and exploits during the first half of 2026, increasing the focus on security and compliance.
The October 30 deadline will be a key test for Brazil’s crypto sector as firms prepare applications and regulators assess their controls.
