Strategy Stops Bitcoin Purchases, Continues Selling: Should You?

According to Strategy’s Q2 earnings call, the company has stopped purchasing additional Bitcoin (BTC), while continuing to sell some of its holdings. Despite halting additional purchases, the company still reported a 25% increase in BTC holdings since the beginning of this year. Let’s discuss if you should also follow Strategy’s “strategy.”
Should You Also Stop Buying Bitcoin And Start Selling, Like Strategy?
Strategy is one of the biggest Bitcoin (BTC) holders in the world. The company took on heavy losses after BTC’s price began to drop in late 2025. The firm said that it will continue to sell BTC to replenish its USD reserve, fund preferred dividends and interest payments, and support share buybacks. These are core parts of the company that need funds, which in the case of Strategy, can only come from selling its BTC holdings.
Unlike a big company, a retail investor does not need to sell Bitcoin (BTC) for dividends, share buybacks, etc. Therefore retail players need not follow Strategy’s pattern. In fact, many investors prefer buying the dip as prices are low.
