Ravencoin May Roll Back Four Days After Critical Block Flaw

TL;DR

  • Ravencoin could execute a four-day roll back after a critical flaw allowed the insertion of invalid blocks into its network.
  • Pools 2Miners and RavenMiner, which control most of the hashrate, are rebuilding the chain from block 4,487,775, prior to the exploit.
  • Bitvavo and Upbit suspended RVN deposits and withdrawals; the token fell 17% in 24 hours to approximately $0.0029.

Ravencoin could revert up to four days of transaction history after attackers exploited a critical flaw in its software that allowed the insertion of invalid blocks into the network. The project confirmed the incident, in what represents one of the most serious attacks in its history.

The blockchain was launched in 2018 as a fork of Bitcoin’s code, designed primarily for the issuance and transfer of digital assets. Its network is considerably smaller, which gives a handful of mining pools a determining influence over which version of the chain prevails when a split occurs.
