Core Scientific Accelerates AI Expansion Through Massive Multi-Gigawatt AMD Partnership

Core Scientific and the semiconductor company AMD announced their partnership as a strategy for the chipmaker to secure over 500 megawatts of data center capacity in the United States starting in 2027. The agreement, with the ability to scale up to 2.5 gigawatts, includes joint physical infrastructure design and the integration of AMD Instinct processors, EPYC CPUs, and ROCm software to power artificial intelligence workloads.

This partnership consolidates Core Scientific’s pivot from Bitcoin mining toward high-density colocation for AI, a conversion process accelerated after the gradual sale of its Bitcoin reserves. According to Mathew Hein, an executive at AMD, securing access to power and land is essential to bringing large-scale AI compute online.

As part of the commercial conditions, AMD will receive warrants to purchase common stock in the company. The next step for Core Scientific will be to reconfigure its facilities across several key U.S. states, consolidating its role as a key provider of technological infrastructure.
