What these numbers mean

What is the funding rate?

Perpetual futures have no expiry, so exchanges use a funding payment to keep the contract price close to the spot price. A positive rate means long traders pay short traders, which usually signals bullish positioning. A negative rate means shorts pay longs. Extreme readings in either direction often precede a squeeze.

What is open interest?

Open interest is the total value of futures contracts that are currently open. Rising open interest with a rising price means new money is entering long positions. Falling open interest means positions are being closed, which often happens during liquidation cascades.

What is the long/short ratio?

It compares the number of accounts holding long positions against those holding short positions. A ratio above 1 means more accounts are long. Crowded positioning on one side can make the market vulnerable to a sharp move in the opposite direction.

What is taker flow?

Taker flow compares aggressive buy volume against aggressive sell volume. Above 1 means buyers are lifting offers more often than sellers are hitting bids, which shows short-term demand.
